Management Team

Justin Nguyen, Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Nguyen brings over 15 years of senior management, operations, and development experience in various industries spanning casino gaming to enterprise software with hands-on knowledge of building a company from the ground up.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Nguyen held concurrent roles as the CEO of StarCite (Shanghai) Ltd. and Senior Vice President of Engineering of StarCite, Inc. At StarCite, Mr. Nguyen was one of four key executives that navigated StarCite into a thriving enterprise software company, delivering consistent product and revenue growth.

Prior to StarCite, Mr. Nguyen led development and operations for the Multi-Player Systems group at Silicon Gaming, Inc., the first venture backed company in the gaming industry with Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers, Benchmark Capital Partners, and Technology Partners as the original backers. Mr. Nguyen was a key contributor to development efforts leading to the company's IPO. Mr. Nguyen also spearheaded Silicon Gaming's second major product, a fault tolerant wide area gaming and financial system (WAPS). Mr. Nguyen’s team introduced many industry "firsts" into casino gaming, including the first wide deployment of Ethernet and public/private key encryption.

Prior to Silicon Gaming, Mr. Nguyen was a founding engineer at Maximum Information, an Internet development tools and consulting company that was successfully acquired by NetManage. Mr. Nguyen participated in most aspects of the company, from inception, through development and to the acquisition.

Mr. Nguyen did his Bachelor’s studies in Computer Engineering at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.

Emil Chang, General Counsel

Mr. Chang brings with him over 15 years of legal expertise and management experience with high-technology companies. In particular, Mr. Chang specializes in serving Silicon Valley and Asian high-technology clients, providing services in the areas of general corporate matters, venture financing, merger/acquisition, intellectual property matters, patent prosecution, and licensing.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Chang served as general counsel and held management positions with a number of Silicon Valley startups. For example, Mr. Chang served as General Counsel for Holley Communications Group, Inc., a mobile phone design house based in the United States with its parent in China. He was responsible for its overall legal matters, including its global mobile phone licensing strategy and its capitalization strategy with respect to its foreign parent and subsidiaries. Mr. Chang was also Director of Operations and General Counsel for Altima Semiconductors, Inc., a provider of network semiconductors, and served as General Counsel for seeUthere Technologies, Inc., an event planning ASP, where he participated in its fundraising strategy and execution, licensing strategy and execution, and merger activities. Lastly, Mr. Chang was co-founder of WebEver, Inc., an Internet infrastructure software company. During his tenure, he managed product deployment and product support, legal, finance, HR, and system administration and played a role in fundraising and product marketing.

Prior to serving as general counsel and holding management positions with a number of Silicon Valley startups, Mr. Chang practiced exclusively in the intellectual property areas—in particular, patent prosecution, patent infringement opinions, and litigation of intellectual property matters. He was lastly with the law firm of Oppenheimer, Wolfe & Donnelly, and was with the same practice group for over six years.

Mr. Chang has published a number of articles on various legal and startup issues, and he has been a speaker on various intellectual property and corporate law issues.

Mr. Chang holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington, a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings. Additionally, Mr. Chang is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and he is licensed to practice law in the states of California and Washington.

John Chang, Executive Vice President, Marketing

Mr. Chang brings over 24 years of expertise in building enterprise and consumer ventures in both start-up and multinational companies.

Mr. Chang recently incubated several new ventures and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of several companies in China and Silicon Valley.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Chang was Chairman of StarCite, where he led the merger of OnVantage and StarCite to form the dominant player with over $60 million in sales in on-demand meetings technology. Before StarCite, Mr. Chang was Chief Executive Officer of OnVantage, which was created in 2004 through a merger of seeUthere Technologies and PlanSoft. After the merger, Mr. Chang completed an $18 million round of financing led by Norwest Venture Partners and Texas Pacific Group Ventures. Mr. Chang co-founded seeUthere in 1999 and later led the merger with PlanSoft.

Previously, Mr. Chang was Vice-President of Marketing for Interwoven where he helped launch the company from seven employees to market leadership. The company went public in 1999 and achieved a $6 billion market cap. Mr. Chang also held Section 16 executive officer positions at Insignia Solutions, where he helped take the company public in 1995. Prior to Insignia, Mr. Chang managed a $600 million business unit at Acer America and he helped the company enter mass retail distribution in 1990. Before jumping into start-ups, Mr. Chang held management positions at Hewlett-Packard, where he led applications development and marketing for semiconductor test equipment.

Mr. Chang earned an MBA and Arjay Miller Scholar award from Stanford University and a BSEE with Honors from the California Institute of Technology.

Daniel Huang, Vice President, Engineering

Mr. Huang brings more than 11 years of software and hardware development experience creating cutting edge embedded devices, operating systems, and enterprise applications.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Huang served as Director, Engineering at StarCite Inc., where he was responsible for leading the day to day engineering operations of StarCite’s Shanghai engineering operations as well serving as Chief Architect for all product lines. At StarCite, Mr. Huang spearheaded the restructuring of global engineering from distinct product teams and architecture into a shared service architecture.

Prior to StarCite, Mr. Huang served as Software Architect for enterprise clustering and distributed caching at open source enterprise software developer, JBoss Inc. Mr. Huang was one of four key engineers that developed the most widely used Java enterprise distributed computing technology with over 60 million deployments worldwide. JBoss Inc. was later acquired by RedHat where Mr. Huang was instrumental in developing integration technology for the interoperation of post-merger product suites.

Prior to JBoss, Mr. Huang led the development efforts of Vodafone Global Platform at Vodafone KK (Japan) in the role of Software Architect. Mr. Huang oversaw the technical collaboration between Vodafone Japan and mobile handset manufacturers and the development of cutting edge mobile data applications instrumental in driving data revenue growth.

Mr. Huang holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Gordon Lee, Managing Director

Mr. Lee is a veteran of the gaming industry, with extensive experience in Macau. Mr. Lee’s unique experience spans both casino equipment sales and distribution to casino operations.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Lee served as Executive General Manager of Mocha (a member of Melco PBL Entertainment (Macau) Limited – a NASDAQ listed company) and grew Mocha to be the largest and dominate slot hall operator in Macau.

Prior to Mocha, Mr. Lee co-founded Elixir Group Limited, which was established as a gaming focused IT solutions provider. Elixir is currently a fully owned subsidiary of Melco International Development Limited (stock code: 200), one of the first companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and one of the most successful gaming stocks in Hong Kong. Under Mr. Lee’s leadership, the company has evolved from IT solutions to offering a full line of casino related equipment and services.

Prior to founding Elixir, Mr. Lee held executive management at Delirium Cybertouch, BEPay.com, and Vanda Computer & Equipment Co. Ltd.

Mr. Lee holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York.

Tony Payne, Executive Vice President, Product Development

Mr. Payne brings more than 14 years of leadership and design experience in the creation of some of the gaming industry’s most innovative products.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Payne served as VP, Product Development at Diamond Game, Inc., where he helped the company enter into new and emerging Class II, charitable, and lottery markets; developing over thirty-five titles during his tenure.

In 1995, Mr. Payne joined gaming industry maverick Silicon Gaming, and has been at the forefront of groundbreaking slot game design and technology ever since. While at Silicon Gaming, Mr. Payne served as Senior Producer and later assumed responsibilities as Executive Producer, leading the game studio group. Along with his management role, he produced and/or consulted on the design and development of nearly twenty games. Other contributions included the invention of a patented multiple pay-line gaming method.

Prior to joining Silicon Gaming, Mr. Payne served as a Producer at video game upstart Rocket Science Games. Rocket Science was known for its paradigm shift, melding Hollywood and the Silicon Valley. Integrating motion picture quality live-action, computer graphics and production management methodologies with game technology, Mr. Payne created games with unsurpassed production value.

Mr. Payne began his career in film production, eventually as Co-Producer.

Mr. Payne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television.

Jack Yu, Vice President, Finance

Mr. Yu brings over 12 years of executive leadership experience in finance and operations; with broad financial management experience, extensive expatriate and international experience, and outstanding cross-culture management skills

Mr. Yu currently also serves as executive advisor to portfolio companies of Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, NEA, August Capital, Mayfield, Sigma and Sierra Ventures.

Prior to Aspect Gaming, Mr. Yu served as VP Finance & CFO for Infotone Communications Corporation, an enterprise data integration funded by Sierra Ventures, where he built the entire infrastructure from the ground up, including accounting, legal, corporate IT, financial management, and HR. Prior to Infotone, Mr. Yu served in similar capacity for BoardVantage, an SaaS company funded by Foundation Capital and Bay Partners.

Previously, Mr. Yu was the Founder & CEO of Afanti, a online consumer data mining and market research company funded by Goldman Sachs and Sumitomo. Mr. Yu built the entire company from the ground up; managed aggressive marketing and sales force; established MIS & financial management system for global operations; managed fund raising, corporate strategic planning, engineering team and product marketing (from pre-development to product launch).

Mr. Yu holds a Bachelor’s Business Administration from Xiamen University and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.
